Paying homage to the songlines tradition of the indigenous people in Australia and their ancient tradition of drawing a map of place using music and song.
Orchard Songlines is a collaboration with Axis Ballymun, along with the extraordinary talents of composer Tom Lane and poet Jessica Traynor. We worked with young people in the community to collect memories and images of the past and present of Ballymun, tracing the shape of the place as it has been, and imagining the place as it might be in years to come. Orchard Songlines resulted culminate in four new songs written collaboratively and recorded at Axis Ballymun. It also saw a new Orchard of heritage apple trees arrive in Ballymun which will be planted in a permanent site for the community. The trees will hold the songs and the songs will sing the story of the place.
Thanks to the YPCE team in Arts Council Ireland for their continued support of our work through Arts Grant Funding.
